Who we are Fordham and District Garden Club exists as a group of people brought together under the principles embodied in our motto: Gardens and Gardening, Friendship and Fun, Learning and Sharing. If you share these principles and would like to meet with friendly people with similar interests then please come along - we'd love to welcome you in! We are not experts, nor even necessarily all gardeners, but we have an interest in gardens and gardening and enjoy furthering our knowledge together in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. So for those interested, of any age or experience, we hope we have something to offer for everyone. Regular events The club meets at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month at the Victoria Hall, Fordham, except for July and December when we have parties. Meetings usually involve a presentation from a guest speaker followed by refreshments and an opportunity to buy plants from our excellent plant stall, before informal questions and answers and club announcements. There is also a summer garden party or event, a Christmas party, a summer coach outing, and of course our annual show. We are also planning some informal evening visits for the summer months. Membership fees and benefits Club membership and all club activities are free to under 18's. Guests are very welcome to most events, and an entry fee will be charged which is generally £3.00. Receipts will be issued, and any guest fees paid will be fully refundable against annual membership, which is currently £15.00 per calendar year. As well as regular meetings, events and outings, membership also entitles you to the following discounts (on presentation of your laminated membership card):- Simpsons Nursery, Fordham - 5% off everything (plants and trees), any day. Fordham Garden Centre - 10% off gardening items only, excluding special offers. Not weekends or bank holidays. Boyces Seeds, Lower Carter Street, Fordham - 10% off all seeds. Free catalogue for members. Amwell Aquatics, Soham - 10% off pond and garden items, any day.
In addition we also put in an annual club seed order with Kings seeds with discounts of up to 50%. For the keen gardener, the savings from these discounts alone could be more than the membeship fee itself! Charity We choose a different charity each year to support, by putting out collection boxes at club events. Last year we raised over £200.00 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, www.eastanglianairambulance.org.uk. This years charity is the Arthritis Research Campaign Noddy Appeal, www.noddyappeal.org |
